Building trust as a leader is as complicated as you make it.
If you are a good example to follow, tell the truth, know when to listen and when to provide feedback – you are good to go. Not every leader is the same, but fundamentally trusting those you have hired to perform, is a great start.
Let’s face it, trust builds employee engagement – and there is a direct relationship between employee engagement and business success. There is all sorts of evidence demonstrating that greater employee and team alignment leads to you achieving your objectives and goals. Maybe you’ve noticed it within your organization. An engaged employee is motivated beyond the normal duties of their job description, is driven by your organization’s vision, understands their value within the organization, and consistently behaves in ways that support your organization’s interests.
Trust comes from respect and collaboration. Leaders who recognize the role that it plays in employee engagement find that investing time in coaching and development helps ensure that the best employees are drawn to your company and stay.
Employee engagement and strong company culture are built on trust. The result is more effective communication, enhanced teamwork, a greater degree of customer satisfaction, and, ultimately, better business performance.
