The best leaders recognize their role is not only building a strong business foundation while keeping the bottom line in mind, but also empowering the people who work for them to create purpose in their lives by working for something they believe in. Whether you want to be or not, you are a role model and your reactions to uncertainty, successes, and failures have a great impact.
This is no small task. Talking about the important fundamentals of leadership and how our current situation may alter your strategic approach will help set things straight in your own mind, so that you can empower your people to do their best.
Managing Performance – Giving & Receiving Feedback Virtually
- Expectations Have Clear Expectations and Timelines. Before we delegate anything, Leaders need to prepare. It sounds simple enough…
- Authority Outline authority level / guidelines and non-negotiables. Authority is the level of freedom that you provide as part of how another person will carry out a task.
- Alliance Have an intentional and empowering dialogue on needs. “Design the Alliance” with your employee and develop a blueprint on how communication will flow. Ask questions that pertain to behaviors and understanding communication styles.
- Autonomy Check-in protocol, when, how, frequency (to avoid micro-managing). One of the most difficult things for leaders and managers is letting go. Once you’ve delegated something, you need to have the courage to let people succeed AND make mistakes on their own.
